This Workshop is for you because...

Introduction to Sewing - 15 hours to learn and improve with your sewing machine.

Do you have a sewing machine at home and don't know where to start?
Would you like to make your own accessories, alterations, or textile projects, but feel stuck when cutting fabric, installing a zipper, or understanding where each piece goes?

This intensive summer introductory sewing course in Logroño is designed to help you overcome your fear of the machine, learn the basics of sewing from scratch, and start sewing with more confidence, autonomy, and security.

During the course, you will work on practical, beautiful, and useful projects, such as a drawstring backpack or tote bag, a cushion cover or makeup pouch, a toiletry bag with handle and lining, and a reversible bucket hat.

Each project is designed to teach you real sewing techniques step-by-step: cutting fabrics, making straight and curved seams, installing zippers, working with linings, applying reinforcements, and using an iron as a fundamental tool in garment construction.

SEE THE FUNDAMENTALS YOU WILL ACQUIRE AND WHAT YOU NEED

A course to really start, without stress and at your own pace

We know that starting to sew can be intimidating: choosing fabric, calculating measurements, cutting without fear, threading the machine, adjusting tension, sewing straight, understanding seam allowances, or installing a zipper can seem complicated steps when no one has explained them well to you.

Therefore, this intensive course is structured as a practical and progressive experience. You will learn the necessary fundamentals to start sewing independently: identifying fabrics and fibers, differentiating between woven and knit fabrics, correctly placing patterns on fabric, preparing fabrics before cutting, operating the sewing machine safely and basically, using appropriate needles, presser feet, and threads, making straight and curved seams, overcasting, controlling seam allowances, installing zippers, and solving the most common problems that arise when sewing.

Here, it's not about rushing or finishing everything at any cost. The goal is for you to understand the process, gain fluidity, and be able to continue sewing at home afterward with much more confidence.

What will you sew during the course?

Drawstring backpack or tote bag

We will start with a simple and very useful project to learn how to calculate measurements, cut fabrics, overcast, make straight seams, and work with the iron applied to sewing. It's an ideal way to overcome your fear of the machine and start seeing results from the beginning.

Cushion cover or simple makeup pouch

With this project, you will advance one step further. You will learn to calculate measurements and ease, cut fabrics, make straight seams, overcast, and install a conventional zipper. It's one of those key learnings that you can then apply to many domestic projects.

Toiletry bag with handle and lining

The toiletry bag will help you better understand volume, the assembly of pieces, and three-dimensional spatial vision. You will learn to place semi-rigid internal reinforcements, assemble a zipper with lining, and work on a more complete and structured project.

Reversible bucket hat

A special project, perfect for summer. You can make it through upcycling, for example using old jeans, or with new fabric. You will work with curved pieces, curved stitching, application of light reinforcement, and ironing.

The important thing is not to do everything perfectly, but to learn to sew with autonomy

Classes are held in an open classroom format. This means that each participant will work at their own pace, according to their previous experience, skill, and available time.

The proposed projects are a guide for practicing different sewing techniques, but it is not mandatory to complete them all during the course. Some people will advance faster and others will need more time, and that's okay. The main purpose is to learn techniques, understand processes, and gain autonomy in handling the machine, materials, and garment construction.

This course is for you if you want to stop relying on incomplete tutorials, if you get frustrated when something doesn't work out the first time, if you have fabrics stored away waiting for "the right moment," or if you simply want to learn a useful, creative, and very satisfying skill.

Dates, schedule, and price

The intensive summer introductory sewing course consists of 15 hours of class, divided into 3-hour sessions.

Dates: July 6, 8, 10, 13, and 15
Schedule: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Price: €150
Location: LM Studio, Logroño

What do you need to bring?

To complete the projects, you will need to bring some materials depending on what you want to sew: canvas for the tote bag or backpack, cord if you choose a backpack, zippers for the pouch, cover, or toiletry bag, fabric scraps for the lining, thin fusible batting, old jeans or sturdy fabric for the hat, interfacing, and your basic sewing kit.

If you have a sewing machine, it is very important that you bring it adjusted and in perfect working order. If you do not have a machine, you can request a loaner to use during the classes.

Who is this course for?

For people who want to start sewing in a practical way.
For those who have a machine at home and don't know how to use it safely.
For those who have already tried sewing, but feel they lack a foundation.
For those who want to make useful projects and learn techniques they can then repeat at home.

You don't need to know how to sew. The important thing is to be eager to learn, practice, and enjoy the process.
